LEEP Critical Habitats Module

Before visiting a lake, students use classroom computers to view lake data on the WDNR’s website to determine what factors within the lake were designated as “critical habitat.” During the lake visit, students and chaperones canoe to the critical habitat areas and use aqua-scopes to view, identify and photograph each site.

This slideshow presentation was developed by Scott Toshner as a part of his career with the WDNR. Scott has been a supporter of the LEEP program since its inception and regularly visited classrooms to share his knowledge of the WI Critical Habitat Program. He developed this presentation to make the concepts of critical habitat more relevant to students by giving them the chance to visualize the diversity in habitats and their role in aquatic ecosystems.
