10 am to 3 pmMemorial Park, Ashland

Consider joining us on Saturday, August 16th at 10am-3pm to participate in a hands-on restoration workshop and guided tour of the Ashland Chequamegon Bay Shoreland Restoration Project (Ashland CBSRP).  This workshop will be held on-site at the Memorial Park project site here in Ashland, WI (Bing Map).

The Ashland CBSRP 'Shoreland Restoration Workshop' will be a great opportunity to learn about and observe first-hand the results of nearly 4 years of intense restoration along Ashland's lakefront. We've organized the 5-hour workshop period into modules that allow attendees to come and go pending their interests.  The day will start with two guided tours, the first about a functional bio-retention basin and the second a full site tour of the restoration project and its current status. Lunch will be a casual brownbag (bring your own) with discourse on the topic of the importance of restoration both locally and regionally.  The remaining 2 modules will focus on the identification and control of select invasive plant species, followed by the demonstration of restoration and planting methods to conclude the afternoon. The content of the workshop will be presented in a way that is applicable to many audiences, including those making decisions affecting both public and private lands. Whether you are looking to restore land at the location of your business or in your own backyard, the information gained from this workshop will benefit your efforts.

Join us for an hour or for the full day! We'd love to have you. This is an outdoor event. Casual field clothing plus a light wind-breaker/raincoat/hat is recommended. Go to www.ashlandshorerestore.org to learn more about the project and ecological restoration.

    9:00 amThree Rendezvous Locations

Join nearly 200 other river rats at one of 20 rendezvous sites around Wisconsin on September 13 (Rain Date September 14) to help search for invasive species, including escaped and released aquarium and water garden plants that could choke our rivers and streams if gone undetected.  The 150+ monitoring sites will vary from public parks on large rivers to small culverts on country roads spanning small trout streams.  At some sites friendly waters will beg you to wade in to get a better look while at other sites volunteers will be asked to simply look from the safety of the shore with binoculars and rakes. Whether you are comfortable wading into a river or not, there is a site for you. The Snapshot Day will begin at 9am at a local rendezvous site for a short training, along with their information packet and directions to their site(s). The day will end around 1-2pm when volunteers return to the rendezvous site and submit their findings.

There will be three rendezvous sites in Bayfield and Douglas Counties:

    1)      Barnes Town Hall; Hosted by Carrie Sanda, St. Croix/Eau Claire Headwaters Watershed Coordinator, 715-394-8525

    2)      Drummond Town Hall;  Hosted by Jeremy Bates, Bayfield County AIS Coordinator, 715-373-6167

    3)      Lake Nebagamon Auditorium; Hosted by Farrah Wirtz, Douglas County AIS Coordinator, 715-394-8334

Want to be a part of this awesome event?  Go to http://www.wisconsinrivers.org/events/display/item/snapshot-day to register and learn more. If you have any questions about the event, feel free to contact the local coordinator who’s rendezvous site is closest to you.
